Celebrity Evening Wear: Rules They Won't Break

Wednesday, 02 June 2010

Celebrity Evening WearThere are cases when the fail-safe rule «if she is wearing it, it must be good» just does not work. Even the most reckless celebrity fashionistas have to put up with the decorum and dress code for formal or red carpet events.

When you're flipping through a glossy magazine with red carpet snaps, it leaps to the eye that despite the completely different looks so carefully worked out for them by their stylists, there certain rules and laws that they dare not disregard. Regardless of body shape, skin color, status, celebrities will never accentuate their defects, or flaunt their assets. They expertly combine elegance, refinement, good taste and style in their designer outfits which excite admiration of their fans.

So, perfect evening dress should be:

Sweep long

We need to differentiate between a cocktail dress and an evening gown, because even today, when things are really mixed up and it's hard to say one from another, black tie events still require an outfit to match the occasion. Everybody would be happier when they think of the party or the special occasion that is approaching. But when it comes to the type of dress to wear for that occasion there will be a lot of confusion for even the women with good dressing sense. The great Chanel was strongly against women showing their knees as she found them totally ugly, the most unattractive part of a woman's body.  A long dress has always been a declaration of femininity and a fashion statement. That's the reason behind the everlasting popularity of mermaid dresses favored by Beyonce Knowles, gowns with long trains by Carolina Herrera and sweep long goddess dresses - a safe choice with many celebrities.

Decently revealing

There is no need to cover every inch of your body, and super-high neckline, long sleeves or ultra-thick fabric are not welcome at red carpet. An evening dress should be decently revealing, with a medium neckline and a bit of playful transparency with delicate lace trim, creating the airy effect with several layers of transparent fabrics.

Delicately colored

Black color for evening total look is safe, but rather a boring choice for a celebrity. However, dazzling bold colors are not an option for a special occasion. Rich, darker or subdued tones are best choices for evening dress colors. The only exception is red or gold.

Few celebrities opt for hot pink for their evening dress, as there are only a few lucky ladies who can pull it out successfully. Your best bet is a solid color evening dress, or a dress with delicate and gradual color variation. Without exception, style mavens agree that brilliant and bright colors are all the rage this season. These vibrant shades and hues blend perfectly with all available designs of evening dresses.

Clean cut

It's rare that someone dares to discard this principle, and if they do they lose. If the cut is too complex and elaborate, with plenty of accents, like draperies, bows and pleats, it shows to advantage only one thing - designer's ingenuity, and not your body. This is a lesson from the stars - the audience should remember you, and not the dress.

Moderately decorated

An evening dress, which stole the spotlight for the day or evening to be precise, should not be screaming originality with sparkles and redundant details. Bow at the waist makes straps redundant, and popular vintage style often involves beading or embroidery, but they often highlight the color of the gown and look fabulous. Remember that vintage fashions of different types are providing women the chance to be classic and glamorous in their appearance with little to no effort.

For the same reason, in some cases jewelry may be discarded in favor of the elaborate cut, as it's highly inadvisable to combine a necklace with draped or frilled chest. Many dresses on the red carpet are self-sufficient, that do not require any jewelry, though a ring or a bracelet may be a nice touch.

As you see, all you need is a little bit of common sense when it comes to dressing. You should be well aware of the occasion for which you are going to wear an evening dress. Think of who is going to give you company and who are all will be present in that event. These factors are also to be taken in to account when you select your evening dress for any event.
