Monica Bellucci – an Italian beauty

Saturday, 17 July 2010

Monica BellucciNo surprising to see beautiful women around us. There are lots of very beautiful women around us. There is a plenty of sex-symbols who appear with the frequency of once a year in tabloids. And as the contrast with those of them, there are women who are difficult to fall into any category of women. Such legends of various epochs as Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren and  Catherine Deneuve cannot be confused with changing sex-symbols of our times. And Monica Bellucci belongs to the rare category of women who grew over the category of just sex-symbols. The most beautiful women are believed to appear and live in Russia and in Italy.

And there, in Italy, in the small town Città di Castello, to the family of Romano and Brunella Belucci on September 30, 1964, Monica Bellucci appeared to the world who will become the object of the admiration and worship from men and the mix of envy and delight from women.  There is plenty of information about the poor family where Monica was born to and that her childhood was too Spartan and ascetic. Actually, Romano Belucci owned a small cargo transportation company being not very wealth but not poor at all. So, the star of model business and cinema comes from the family of the medium European class.

As a girl, she was a typical teenager from the middle-class society who was trained to respect the labor and clearly realize that success and fame are worth deserving with the good knowledge and hard work. As a schoolgirl, Monica achieved good progress and though her beauty and look attracted lots of attention from the surrounding people she stayed loyal to her beliefs and principles. She graduated the school with excellent marks and she managed to use her abilities and acquired knowledge to enter into the University of Perugia, the Faculty of Law in 1986.

The student life, which is hard and hungry for all students of the world enabled her to look for a job. She started her work background as a waitress for a local pizzeria and a bit later she had her star. An acquaintance of her recommended that she tried herself as a model. Monica did not intend to give up her study at the Faculty of Law, though she arrived in Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals, to find a short-term job as a model to improve the financial state. A hot Italian beauty was offered  to work as a model immediately when she appeared at the Milan models agency «Elite» and in the soonest time, in 1987, Monica became one of the most popular models of the country and the legendary designers like Dolce&Gabbana made her as the image of their brand.

By the early 90s Monica Bellucci participated in all the largest shows by «D&G», and also she was shot as cover girl for the most fashionable magazines in Italy and in Europe a bit later.

Such a beauty was not left alone in the model business and soon she was offered to debut in the TV movie «Vita coi figli» (from 1990) by Dino Risi, one of the classic of the Italian cinematography. Later, Monica featured in a couple of Italian movies within two years in episodes. She played the «character» roles where she used her look and beauty, though she paved the way in her acting career.

She threw her trial balloon in Hollywood when Roman Coppola, one of the nephews of the legendary American director Francis Ford Coppola, saw the charming beauty as the cover girl and recommended that she featured in his new project, the movie «Dracula» by the novel of Abraham «Bram» Stoker. Bellucci appeared in the cameo as one of the fiancés of the most famous vampires of the world, but her personal abilities and the professional interaction with such actors like Gary Oldman and Keanu Reeves made her decide for the cinema.

Monica, however, did not give up as a model since she earned good money appearing on catwalk and won more fame. And in the meantime she closely involved in the cinema.

She realized very well that with her experience she gained at that time it was impossible to win Hollywood (she had to escape from the special accent, first of all), and she made her attempts to appear in French cinema that had more serious and stable positions by that time in the European and world level than that of Italy. And she was awarded, and in 1996 she woke up famous when she starred in the French drama «L'appartement». She showed the high level of acting skills not backed with the professional base, and she greatly impressed the experts of the cinematography. Her play shot her to stardom as she won the French equivalent of the Oscar nomination, the César Award of French Cinematography as the «most promising actress». Besides, Monica got acquainted with Vincent Cassel, one of the best actors of France of the second half of 1990 – 2000. And no surprise that she had an affair with him which led to the marriage and in 2004 she gave a birth to their daughter, Deva.

In the mean time, Monica succeeded in the model business and she became one of the top models of Europe but step by step she paid more attention and time to cinema, leaving the model career. After her role in the «L'appartement» she featured in several French movies, though she got fame and success when she starred in the criminal drama «Dobermann» (from 1997), where she partnered again with Vincent Cassel. She was acknowledged as the world-known actress when she starred in «Malèna» (from 2000), depicting the life of a young beautiful widow who lived in the Italian village of the times of World War II. The movie was internationally recognized and was nominated for various awards (including Golden Globe Award and Oscar). Monica became the example of the female appeal not only for the experts of fashion and for the amateur filmmaker of the world.

Since that time Monica Bellucci is not the name of a woman and actress but the standard notion regarding the women beauty, the same as the name of Michael Shoemaker is used to define the talented racing driver. By the present time Monica’s filmography lists such works in the movies as Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre, Matrix, II and II parts, The Passion of the Christ, The Brothers Grimm and many others. She eventually gave up as a model though she still participates in the photo sessions for famous magazines.
