 Certina
watches thanks to DS system that the manufacturers put into practice in 1959 are
considered the sports watches. DS system is the double protection system that
ensures the stunning durability to watches. Certina watches have a long-service
life. They were take up high to Everest, and they experienced all the troubles of
the mountaineering life, they were thrown down off the helicopter and they go on

The

Certina
watches were first created in the small watch-making shop founded by the
brothers Adolff and Alfred Kurt in Grenchen in 1888. The brothers manufactured the
high quality time pieces and mechanisms and in 1906 they launched the first
watches collection under the brand Grana (from the Latin name of the town -Granacus).
The watches were immediately considered as the winner and awarded the prize at
the World Exhibition in Milan. Besides, they were awarded prizes at the World Exhibitions
held in Brussels in1910 and Bern in 1914 and the whole world noted the
exclusive quality and characteristic of new watches.
The
brand name was changed in 1938 at the 50 years anniversary of the Company and Grana
turned into Certina (from Latin certus - reliable and confident). On one part, it
was the confirmation of the quality and characteristics of watches manufactured
by the Company, and on the other part, these characteristics are tested with
time and they are really high. And that is why Certina watches were manufactured
specially for aviation and navy for the teammate troops during the World War
II.
The
new page in the history of the brand was the development of the new concept DS
- Double Security (double reliability) in 1959. First watches that appeared on the
market are watches with sapphire glass of double thickness, strengthened case,
the system of collision protection of the mechanism, with special seals on
axles, winding head and the rear wall of the case. Those watches were water-resistant
up to 20 atmospheres, resistant to strikes and falling from the height up to 6
meters (the nearest analogues provided only 2.2 height falling guarantee). Sportsmen
and extreme sport followers appreciated new Certina watches.
In
1960 Certina went up to the peak of Dhaulagiri in Himalaya. Blue Ribbon watches
were manufactured in 1961 with super flat automated mechanism. They were acknowledged
as the most durable watches of that time, and Certina became one of the reputed
watch makers.
In
1970 the divers who participated in geological and biological experiments in the
Caribbean Sea (held by US Naval Forces together with NASA), were equipped with
Certina watches created especially for the deep diving DS Super ph 1000m, and
the watches proved again that they are popular only because of their actual
features and characteristics.
The
same year the Japanese Miura performed one of the extreme down comes off the
Everest with the Certina DS-Chronolympic from 8000 to 7000m and the watches
were again on the highest quality.
Another
model Certina Biostar was launched in a year, the first version of watches in
the world that showed physical, emotional and even intellectual status of the
owner.
In
1983 the Company merged with the SMH group that was renamed into Swath Group in
1998 and became the sports brand of the holding. The entire range of new collections
was launched, special models were created for extreme sportsmen, namely bump
artists, moto riders, racing car drivers, aqualunger s, and among the models
were pressure-resistant, vibro-resistant watches, with sapphire glasses
protected with planks of the planished steel.
Apart
from sporty and strict models for men there are charming Certina watches for
women, winners of various jewelry exhibitions with cases of polished steel,
titan, super durable and elegant. Certina
watches still win the world.
