Hippie Fashion

Sunday, 07 February 2010

hippie fashionWe are not sure today whether the hippie movement would be perceived as intensely and with enthusiasm if not followed the decades of conventional, monotonous, unemotional, of blameless elegance and still «blush» fashion. And the provocative bright flower of hippie movement distinguished on the background of the white, grey and blue and pink colors, the beautiful flower in shape and color.

Hippie style is presented as the comfort and beauty that do not depend on the cost of clothes. This is functionality from comfortable sandals, plentiful purses and handbags decorated with embroidery and beads, to bandanas and leather bands to support long hair. Hippie colors included all possible color of bright shades of orange, red, green and azure.

Designers from all over the world still keep adhered to the hippy fashion to some extent showed in this or that elements of their collections. The hippie-styled accessories are like spice herbs for the dishes when cooking since they are bracing, teasing and remind that the meal should be nutrient and nice-looking to eat, while the clothes should be functional, practical and be the sign of social status and arise the pleasant feelings.

The slogan of hippie movement is love and freedom. And the most essential rule in hippie fashion is freedom from any rules. This style is perfect to match everything and to any extent. This could be a long noname skirt, and trousers with embroidered color fabric applications, and a wide Trussardi belt with embroidery made from color threads, the belts with knitted elements and beads, jeans and various chains.

Denim is one of the actual and widely practiced fabrics for hippie fashion. The trousers, skirts, jackets, and even shoes and handbags made from denim could attenuate any harsh ensemble making it somewhat hippy. Vivid plastic handbags also go with this fashion of orange, blue, pink and green colors, roomy as the beach bags to excite as a bright spot in the grey masses of megalopolis. Sometimes when you feel like adding something hippy to your look, funny looking watches with a bright wristlet or beads or bright laces for your snickers are enough to awake the fancy.

The style of hippie life is free journey, free love, full and uncontrollable self-expression and liking for the stimulants of ecstasy, namely marijuana and psychedelics.

The hippie fashion mainly consists of ethnic elements, based on traditional costumes of Nepal, India and Africa. Hippie style assumes the high involvement of those who wear such clothes to the process of its creation: a color cloth is sewed into the tear of jeans, a vivid color bandana is made from any cloth liked by the wearer, second-hand jackets, bracelets and necklaces which should be more in number to look more like hippie. The «flower children», respectively, prefer flowery scents, including lavender, rose, gardenia and patchouli.

The color gamut for hippie is not limited, though the shades should be brilliant and eye-catching, the fabric they chose is varied in color, texture and cost, but the preference is given to velvet, cotton, silk and leather. The shoes should be comfortable and expressive, like sandals, high boots, and platform patent-leather shoes.

The accessories and decorative elements for the hippie period is presented as cheap bracelets, and rings decorated with hieroglyphs, the symbols of peace, semiprecious stones attractive for hippies thanks to their liking for bright colors only. By the way, hippies were the first to wear rings and bracelets on ankles and toes.

Hippie fashion accepted and admired the elements that we now would find weird and eccentric, like many hippy girls never epilated the hair on their body and avoid wearing bras, considering that the society wanted to control them while they wanted to be free unlike other people. And they did not want anyone suppress their sexual appeal.

The hippie fashion confronted the ideas of the «brand» fashion when they refused to wear clothes with logotypes of brand companies. Hippie found ridiculous to pay more for the clothes only because the logo of the manufacturer was stamped on them. In their opinion, the clothes should be comfortable and pleasing to eye. And the clothes decorated and embroidered with the word «mantra», colorful rainbow and golden stars were found more appropriate and enjoyable for hippies.

Today we may borrow some of the hippie elements under the slogan that «A thing looks gorgeous if made with love!» and some flamboyant accessories to add lucidity and fresh look to our image.
