Natural emeralds are extremely rare therefore their price is very high. Emeralds are usually sold at the price of ten thousand pounds sterling per one karat (which is around 0.2 grams). Gems that have historical value or jewels and mounted gems with emeralds in there can cost even more.

Some tribes believe that emeralds have spiritual energy in them therefore Indian emeralds are usually engraved with sacred texts and spiritual ornaments. One of such emeralds called «Mogol Emerald» and was found in 1695. Its weight is of 217 karats, the height is ten centimeters.
