Leather Jackets

Thursday, 21 May 2009

Leather JacketsFur and leather are so common and close to heart of human beings from the very beginning of civilization. First people were in great need of clothes and fur and leather was running and flying round them in abundance. And they cannot opt to choose various fabrics, if even any. Time was creeping and humans were on the path of evaluation. First, clothes from leather was a shift due to unavailability of other material. Far back in the Middle Ages the leather clothing was the outfit of the nobles only. The times of democracy also preferred this fabric since it is comfortable, long-lasting and long-lived.

Leather jackets became accessories of fashion when first automobiles appeared, and thus, first drivers needed special outfit. The driver's outfit should have been comfortable and unique, durable and easy-cleaning since a vehicle is always oil, fuel and other dirt. And leather jackets complied to these requirements absolutely.

And previously the skin of dead horses of cavalrymen was used to manufacture leather jackets for drivers and mechanics, and the skin was sold for a song which was reasonable. The cavalry was employed in the automobile industry but not as draught force.

Soon after the world was shaken and rocked by flowering of aviation. During the flight pilots got frozen since biplanes were so light and open constructed, and the air staff certainly needed specially made outfit to keep warmth.

In 1928 designers created a leather jacket for freezing airmen, so called Rocker Jacket. Bearing in mind that the Rocker jacket was first designed for pilot of biplanes, its distinction was sloping fastener from the left thigh to the right shoulder, as well as durable and solid leather. The lining was another specific feature of such jacket; the sizes should match (it was only preliminary the outfit for army pilots), a fold was assigned to make free movements, and the sleeves were long covering hands of stretched arms, as if a pilot is flying the biplane.

Up to '60s leather jackets had their stable place in the wardrobe of pilots and bikers, and only imagine what would be if flying or biking could be possible in a costume with a bow tie. Drivers, mechanics and other workers also find it comfortable to make this jacket as their working outfit.

Under the influence of ‘rock-n-roll' movement some legendary characters were created whose distinguishing feature was again leather jackets. The youth quitted wearing other conservative clothes except for leather jackets since it was the very thing to express their attitude to life.  Leather jacket was perfectly associated with ‘rock-n-roll' and youth concepts of riot and protest. The youth always protests, you know, and this is normal.

Though the youth gets mature and they become adults, they are not so committed to leather jacket as before. And how about jackets? Are they still in demand? No doubt. An imposing businessman (ex-fan of rock-n-roll) will enjoy wearing this leather jacket as keepsake of the youth and that wonderful perception of the youth of 20 years old guys. Thus, a leather jacket can be found in the wardrobe of solid and imposing men who have a solid account at the bank as well as solid belly, but still they wear them.

Currently there is a sea change in fashion for leather jackets, yet from every day wear they moved to haute couture garment. This is so ideal material to impress legendary couturiers that use chances to design garment from this elastic, natural, stylish and environmental free material which is in fashion again.

You opt to have leather jackets of various types, color and design in collections of reputed designers. The wide assortment ranges from conservative jackets to ultra-modern of bright color, from leather jackets with ties and sports-like jackets. They are available as waist-cut, waist-fitted, with or without belts, with knitted collar and without it, trimmed with fur and other fabric. Leather jacket is forever in vogue. Sometimes we feel sympathy for cavalry horses though they are still serving humans and rocker jackets from horsehide is one of the expensive and stylish biking jackets.
