The tattoo symbol ‘kanji' could be mentioned here as example that is worn for expressing particular emotions like peace, love, friendship. The ‘Yin and Yang' is another famous name in the line of Chinese tattoos that stands for the symbol of perfect balance. Its different sides contrast by its meaning. When the Yin and Yang becomes dark, it refers earthly and female symbol and when it holds light goes to the sign of airy and male. At the same time, Chinese people take the Yin and Yang's symbol in several ways.  It surrounds the lotus flower bearing the sign of balance, purity and perfection.

The dragon is familiarized as one of the most attractive tattoo pieces in Chinese culture. You know dragon is the national as well as cultural symbol of China and that is why Chinese people believe that dragon tattoo bears the symbol of their identity. Once upon a time dragon had close association with criminals. However, the trend has changed. Today dragon holds the symbol of mystery and power. General people use dragon tattoos bearing aesthetic purposes in mind forgetting the background. 

The dragon keeps various pictorial representations in its tattooing designs. While celestial dragon is considered as highly spiritual, Coiling Dragon, master of the ocean, earth dragon, ruler of earth, Horned Dragon, most powerful, strength, courage and the yellow dragon is taken for intelligence, knowledge.

The tattoos having beautiful designs express different symbols. While the bamboo stands for durability because of its strength, clouds goes with the symbols of long life, power as well as wealth. 

Some ethnic Chinese people wear tattoos in some purposes. The Dai and the Drung minorities mark their skin with tattoos that is inherited from their forefather. Women reside in Drung ethnic minority make tattoos on their appearances. Earlier girls reaching at the age of around 13 were drawn tattoos as a sign of maturity.

Once (around 350 years ago) Drung people were very helpless especially when they were assaulted by other tribal groups. And even the enemies captured Drung women as slaves. As a result they drew tattoos on their faces with a view to making themselves less charming. Thus women tried to save themselves from sexual torture. In recent times, the scenario has changed completely. There are no threatens on Drung women from other groups. However, they have been continuing the tattooing custom that has turned to be an icon of maturity in Drung culture.

Likewise, Dai men wear tattoos on their muscles while women on the back of arm, hand and between the eyebrows. Most of the people in Dai community prefer dragon or tiger tattoo designs drawn usually in black. Wearing black design tattoo, there is also a very interesting story. It is heard that many years ago, Dai people resided on the bank of river and very often attacked by monsters. For that reason they discovered an innovative idea. To hold off monsters they began tattooing on their skin in black color.

Today, tattooing has come into appear bearing the symbol of bravery and boldness of male and the exquisiteness of women. To symbolize beauty, women draw tattoos between the eyebrows. Men hold tattoos with different styles including many-sided flower design on different parts of their body.

Chinese tattoos are also very famous among the celebrities. Allen Iverson (basketball player) uses Chinese tattoos for respect, while Mary J Blige for strength, Nathalie Imbruglia (singer), courage, Julia Roberts, strength of heart, Kiefer Sutherland, undying love and Britney Spears takes character tattoo on her abdomen for meaning mystery.

Whatever you want to mean by your tattooing, love, happiness, peace and so on, you can discover almost everything in Chinese tattoos. But it is better to be aware a bit about using Chinese tattoos. Ive been wanting to get a tattoo in chinese symbols and I think I finally found the quote I want. I want to get 'in every dark cloud theres a silver line.' that quote sticks with me and I think about it whenever times are tough. But I need to find what that would be in chinese. Can anyone help??
